Established under Law No. 1 of 2017, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) is an independent entity affiliated with the Presidency of the Republic and chaired by the Prime Minister. NFSA consolidates the responsibilities of over 17 regulatory bodies to oversee food safety in Egypt. Its mission is to protect consumer health by ensuring that food products consumed, distributed, marketed, or produced in Egypt meet the highest standards of safety and hygiene. NFSA's functions include setting mandatory food safety criteria, inspecting and licensing food handling facilities, controlling imported and local food products to prevent fraud, and coordinating with national and international organizations concerned with food safety and human health.
