Kiribati Fish Limited (KFL) is a joint venture established on December 10, 2010, between the Government of Kiribati, Golden Ocean Fish of Fiji, and Shanghai Deep Sea Fishing of China. The company aims to develop and benefit from Kiribati's abundant fishing resources in an equitable and sustainable manner. KFL operates a state-of-the-art fish processing facility on Tarawa Island, completed in September 2012 at a cost exceeding USD 8 million, employing over 200 individuals. The company manages more than 15 chartered tuna long-line fishing vessels within Kiribati's exclusive economic zone, adhering to dolphin-safe fishing practices and prohibiting illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities.
