The Chios Mastiha Growers Association, established in 1938, is a cooperative that exclusively manages the production and trade of Chios mastiha, a unique resin from the mastic tree native to the island of Chios. The association, representing approximately 4,850 members from 20 primary cooperatives, oversees the cultivation, processing, packaging, and distribution of mastiha. Known for its therapeutic and aromatic properties, Chios mastiha is a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) product and is recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The association exports about 70% of its production worldwide, contributing significantly to the local economy.
