Bourke & Travers began in 1996 when David Travers purchased 44 hectares of land in the north western Clare Valley, between Sevenhill and Armagh, and began planting it to Rhone-style varietals. Our vines are grown on some of the oldest soils in the world, ancient sedimentary geology dating up to 800 million years. This uniqueness is on full display in our vineyards, with terra rossa over limestone, deep sandy loams, red clays, siltstone gravel and quartzite bedrock soils. On this we base a simple winemaking philosophy: grow outstanding fruit in these vineyards and don't overcomplicate it in the winery.
