The Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) is a society established by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, BEDF is dedicated to the development and promotion of Basmati rice exports. It operates a state-of-the-art laboratory and a demonstration cum training farm in Modipuram, Uttar Pradesh, focusing on quality assurance, DNA fingerprinting for varietal identification, and pesticide residue testing. BEDF also engages in farmer awareness programs, capacity building, and the implementation of Basmati registration as a Geographical Indication (GI) product.
