The National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea (MABIK) was established in 2015 to support the conservation and sustainable use of marine bio-resources. The institute focuses on securing and managing marine bio-resources, supporting the development of the marine bio industry, and enhancing public understanding of marine life through research, education, and exhibitions. MABIK operates the Marine Bio-Resource Information System (MBRIS) and the Marine Genome Information System, contributing significantly to marine research and the marine economy. The institute is also involved in international collaborations and conventions such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit Sharing (ABS).
