Hamad Al Falasi, born in 1979, is a prominent Emirati artist and patron of the arts. He graduated from the UAE University in 2004 with a degree in Medicine and Health Sciences. While he had an interest in art from an early age, he began his practice in earnest in 2005. In his work, Al Falasi delivers anonymous and ambiguous messages, inviting the audience to provide their own interpretation. He derives his materials from the details of everyday life and experience, finding creative fodder in local tradition and culture. Frequently appearing in his own photographs, Al Falasi combines elements of spoken word and public dialogue, often integrating geometry and calligraphy, to produce a brand of autobiographical portraiture. Since his first solo exhibition at Zayed University in 2016, Al Falasi has exhibited widely in group shows and competitions, including MP2013 - Marseille-Provence, European Capital of Culture, Galerie Gourvennec Ogor, in 2013. He is the recipient of several awards, including the Silver Medal at the Trierenberg Super Circuit Photography Competition in Austria (2012), Grand Prize at the Emerging Emirati Artist Award (2013), First Prize at the Art At the Top competition in Burj Khalifa (2012), Grand Prize at the Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammad Photography competition (2012), and First Prize at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Photography competition (2012).
