Founded in 1765, Sasanokawa Shuzo Co., Ltd. is a historic Japanese brewery located in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture. The company specializes in the production of sake, shochu, and whisky. In 1946, Sasanokawa Shuzo obtained a whisky production license and began crafting 'Ji-Whisky, ' a term for Japanese whiskies produced by traditional spirit specialists. To commemorate its 250th anniversary, the company established the Asaka Distillery in 2016, focusing on authentic malt whisky production. The distillery utilizes traditional methods and matures its single malts in various casks, including bourbon, sherry, and mizunara oak. Sasanokawa Shuzo is renowned for its Yamazakura whisky brand, which reflects the company's dedication to quality and innovation in the Japanese spirits industry.
